Top Ten WordPress Plug-Ins For 2010

While there are tons of cool plug-ins to use for your site, I want to share with you all my personal top 10 pick for WordPress plug-ins that kick some serious butt.

This list of plug-ins will help keep your blog site in in awesome shape and almost all of them are easy to use. Some will take a bit of setting up while others are just plug and go. :)

TOP TEN PLUG-INS 2010:

1. Broken Link Checker:

This is an amazing little ditty that auto-finds any broken links on your site. I love this one. It is easy to use and a real gem especially if you are an affiliate marketer with tons of links and promos. I had no idea how many broken links I had on some of my sites until I installed this. What happens is some of the vendors will change a link without notice and you are screwed if you don’t know about it. Broken links not only drop your page rank but you are losing in affiliate commissions as well.

2. 404 Notifier:

The 404 notifier plug-in will send you a notification on all 404 errors on your site. This enables you to know exactly what to fix and fix fast. But here’s the cool deal; if you use the next plug-in listed, you most likely wont’ see many 404′s on your site if the 404 errors were generated from changing your permalinks.

3. Permalinks Moved Permanently:

I recently posted an article on Deans Permalink, It does alright but I think there are a couple of flaws in it. The Premalinks Moved Permanently Plug-in, is way easy to use and so far it looks like everything has been fixed. I had issues with 404 errors on my site after changing my permalink structure and that can really make you go nutty if you keep getting them. I need to give props to Nicholas Cardot from Sitesketch101.com for letting me in on this plug-in. Thanks Nicholas!

4. All In One SEO:

This plug-in has been around for a while now but is the sweetheart of seo plug-ins. It takes a bit to figure out if you are just getting started with building your blogs. I highly recommend going through the tutorials so you know how to use this bad boy to get the full benefit from it. The coolest thing I like about it is that if you write a post and it is not doing so hot on search, you can change the headline without getting the ol’ slapparoonie…. Definitely one of my favorites!

5. Easy Privacy Policy:

This plug-in was developed with the Adsense publisher in mind. It’s quick and easy to use and keeps you in good graces with Adsense. I still see some sites that are running adsense ads that do not have a privacy page on them. Having a privacy policy is demanded by the big G. Chances are, if you do not have a privacy policy, you will never see payment from Adsense. This plug-in is a gem for those of you that do not know how to write a privacy policy or just don’t want to. Two Thumbs Up on this…

6. Google XML Sitemaps:

This plugin allows you to create your sitemap fast for Google. Simple as can be. Just a great tool!

7. Zemanta:

Zemanta is not a WordPress plu in but I felt I must include this killer tool in the top ten. Zemanta is a Firefox plug in that really rocks. It is used to assist you in finding and posting relative posts for your readers. Google loves to see related articles on your posts. Zemanta also has a media gallery along with the related articles feature. When you start writing your posts, the related articles and pictures start popping up on your sidebar in your wordpress dashboard. Make sure you read the creative commons for use with the pictures before using them. :) Zemanta is a terrific addition to use with Utility Poster for your blogs.

8. BM Keyword Link:

Another terrific plug in for affiliate marketers. What this plug in does is links words in your posts that you tell it to link to with your affiliate links attached on auto pilot. It also has a no follow option that you can attach to the words and links. Cool stuff….

9. Sexy Bookmarks:

Most of you know I have preached using Onlywire for quite some time, but hey when I find something I like better with more ease of use, I say it. So, I have been using Sexy Bookmarks for about 6 months now and absolutely love it. It is easier than Onlywire for me personally and it give your blog posts a little more cool factor to it. You have options on the look and feel of it. I highly suggest this one.

10. Log in Lockdown:

Login LockDown records the IP address and timestamp of every failed login attempt. If more than a
certain number of attempts are detected within a short period of time from the same
IP range, then the login function is disabled for all requests from that range.
This helps to prevent brute force password discovery. Currently the plugin defaults
to a 1 hour lock out of an IP block after 3 failed lo… By Michael VanDeMar. Just make sure you keep track of your own log in so you don’t lock yourself out.

404 Error Codes Fix

How To Fix 404 Error Codes

I noticed last week that I started getting 404 error codes on a site that I had changed my permalink structure in.

So I did a search on how to fix the errors. I found tons of useless information and went through about ten tech sites before I discovered the right help on correcting the 404 errors.

I discovered that I missed a step when I switched the code. This is a warning to all of you should you decide to change your permalinks on a wordpress site that you have had for a while.

When you change your permalink structure, all previous links will change and be broken from what they originally were. BAD BAD BAD…

There are ways to do it the right way but I am not going to get in to that on this post. This one is just to show you how to fix the 404 errors after you have changed your permalinks the wrong way.

If you have done this get it fixed as soon as possible.

O.k, so here is the good news!

I finally found the right plug in that fixed my 404 errors.

Go to your plugins option in your wordpress dashboard and search for Deans Permalink Migration.

This is one cool plugin that is way easier than the others I tried to noodle around with.

I have provided a set of screenshots for you to help you get through it even quicker.

Step 1: Go to your dashboard and select new plugin.

picture of plugins in dashborad

Step 2:

Search for Deans Permalink Migration and install it.

Screen shot of Deans Permalink Migration Plugin

Step 3: Activate the Plugin

Step 4: Go to your settings tab and look for PermalinksMigration in the drop down menu.

pictur of drop down menu in settings

Step 5: You sill see a box that has your permalink setting in it. Change it to a new one here. I suggest from personal testing to use the %postname% structure. Out of all the permalink structures I have tested in the past, this seems to work the best for me. Of course it’s your decision on how you like to have your permalinks set.

screen shot of permalinks settings

Hit the update options and you are done! This takes about 3 minutes to complete and finally get your page back in order.

Oh, one more tip… You may still see that you have 404 error codes that end in /favicon . From the research I did on this, the favicon error code is not a bad thing. It just means folks are hitting your site pretty much.  If you are not sure if you are getting 404 errors, you should also grab the 404 notifier plugin. The 404 notifier plugin sends you an email every time you get a 404 error on your site.

Hope this helps!

How To Drive Traffic To Your Sites Without Paying For It .

Apple Garamond was used in most of Apple's mar...
Image via Wikipedia

This is the by far the biggest discussion between online marketers and affiliate marketers.

Driving traffic aside from keyword research should be at the top of your list every single day.

So how do we drive that traffic and get the visitors like crazy?

First off you really need to dig deep into your sites niche and get those keywords in your content.

You will notice that the headline on this post begins with the words “How To Drive Traffic To Your Sites”

These  words are what we are looking at as far as our keyword search term.

With that said, we have balanced out in the body and content of this post those words. You will notice that we sprinkle in driving traffic in the post.

This is just one of the tactics we all use but you must keep in mind that your posts need to read naturally and give the best value in the content for what your visitors are looking for.

Think about it this way; If you were looking to learn how to drive traffic to you site, you may have typed in the search bar, how to drive traffic to sites or even a shorter version like “driving traffic”

Get the idea? On this page after we publish it, the search engines will plow through the content and pick up on the keywords we are positioning for.

Alright, so how do you go UBER STYLE on driving traffic?

If you get your mindset straight, you will start thinking of what it is that you have that someone is looking for.

Where would that someone go to find help aside from the search engines?

Here are a few places you should seriously consider jumping on to advertise your site without paying for it.

Again, this will have to do with your niche.

YouTube: Create a short but powerful video on your niche. It does not have to be fancy, it just has to be something your seekers are looking for in order to their questions answered. In your description section of your video, put your link to your page first and then give the description that also has your keywords sprinkled in. This is HUGE and POWERFUL. If you want you can have the link go directly to an affiliate link for one of your offerings.

Forums about your niche: Type in your niche category and then put forums behind that name: For instance,

Dog forums

Golf forums

Affiliate Marketing forums and so on…

Next:

Social networks:

Stay focused on what people are looking for.

Get in the right social gatherings.

For Instance:

If you are a mom and have cool mommy type things to offer

Go to the places where moms hang out! TwitterMoms.com is a really cool site for that.

If you are a golfer and have a page about that, go to the networks with golf fanatics.

What you are doing is tying in with like minded people and inviting them to you site.

In every forum or networking site you have a place to put your link back to your site.

Just be natural about it. Do not try to sell these folks in this type of environment. Just let them know you have some cool stuff to share.

Also, Write some articles and send them to EZine and other article publishing sites. Press releases go a long way as well.

Start getting positioned to get yourself on auto pilot with your blogs, video and articles.  We will dig deeper into this in the next posting. Lots to know!

Knowledge is your key to success!

How Do I Make Money With Affiliate Links?

In a recent survey conducted through Affiliate Learning Links, the #1 answer to the question;

What is the first thing you want to learn this week?” was this.

How do I make Money With Affiliate Links?

While this question has many answers to it, we have broken down some action steps you can take right now to do it and do it with precision.

Before we roll out the steps here we want to inform you once again, that the FTC has it’s new guidelines and they will be enforced in the next few week.

We advise you all to comply with the new rules.

Now for the goods on How To Make Money With Affiliate Links.

Action Steps:

1. Start a blog page with great content that is geared toward a particular niche you enjoy.

Your blog should always have valuable content that gives out information on the subject that folks would be looking for in the search engines.

While the affiliate training and information arena is huge, it is also one of the hardest to get in to and make money with out the gate.

Our findings have been that most folks jumping into affiliate marketing do a ton of copy cat marketing. This can be a very good way for you to get the hang of things but it is really best to get a popular niche aside from affiliate marketing arena and gain an audience for it.

You will find out quickly that most of us have other niches we get involved in and for good reason!

2. Once you get your blog going and a good feel for the niche and the market you are targeting, you will look for companies that have affiliate programs within your niche.  You will then sign up to be an affiliate for them and will have affiliate links that you put on your blog pages.

3. Post a blog every day if you can. This will increase your chances of getting traffic to your site. Once you start driving more traffic you will have a much better chance of sending your visitors to the offers you have linked on your pages.

4. Make sure your blog is SEO friendly and that you are pinging your post every time you write one. Again, this is helping you to drive that traffic to your page. No Traffic, No potential link clicks! Always be thinking about traffic!

5. Opt-in Subscriber boxes on your blog pages is were you really turn up the heat on potential sales. When you have subscribers that want to be on your list you have that additional stream of potential dollars getting dropped into your bank account. It is important to never spamantispam your subscribers and to only get to them relevant information that they may have interest in.

We strongly advise getting an Auto-Responding company such as Aweber

“The Money Is In The List

AWeber proves it to thousands of businesses every day.

Learn how email marketing software
can get you more sales, too.

Just an FYI, Aweber has an affiliate program you can join as well :)

Once you have your auto responder activated, you can set a series of follow up emails to your subscribers. Additionally you have the option to send out broadcast messages for special events and offers that are new or ones that have time limits on them. In most cases the larger companies that have a strong and solid affiliate program will send you updates with your affiliate links attached and inform you to send out to your email list of relevant customers. So in a nutshell, send your affiliate links to your email subscribers on cool new stuff you find to sell them.

6. Social Networking is one of the top ways to get attention from folks that are interested in the same niche you are. You can find these people by doing a Google search on your niche. Once you do that search and find out how many people have interest in your niche then you can go strong by doing deeper searches in the following:

a. Twitter

b. Facebook

c. Search for forums that are targeted in your niche.

d. Hub pages

e. Ning

f. Youtube

These are just a few to start you off.

When you are involved in these networks you will have a place to put your link to your blog page in what is called the signature box. Bada Bing Bada Boom…. Instant traffic back to your blog (that has your affiliate links on  it)

I hope this is helping you see the bigger picture!

If you have not yet watched the Affiliate Marketing 101 tutorial yet, that may help you even more through a visual perspective.

Here is the page for that one. http://affiliatetrainingpros.com/?page_id=75

Till next time!

Make every second count and take your action steps NOW….

Affiliate Training | The #1 Thing You Can Do To Piss Off Your Subscribers!

So we all have our set of creative messages for our subject bar to get our subscribers to OPEN the mail so they can see what the offer is right?

Good!

One major focus when setting up your email campaign including the

Follow Up Sequence” as well as “Broadcast Messages” is to be creative with the subject line. Yes, making it interesting enough to captivate and build that sense of curiosity or “hey this looks cool” thought process.

While these subject line captures are usually honest from most of us..

uh huh hmmm(you know who you are..)

Some folks just don’t get it.

Over the past few weeks, some ding dong out there has been teaching affiliate marketers that market to affiliates complete crap!

Here’s the subject line..

Congratulations You’ve Made A Commission

What moron is telling newbie affiliates to do this? It’s WRONG and it will discredit you if you pull a tactic like this.

Most affiliates count on seeing those pretty little subject that say this but only when it’s true.

I myself looked at one thinking it was from one of my vendors, then I got a bunch more. What a waste of effort. It’s one thing to get your mail opened.

But it’s whats inside that counts.

So here is what the body of the content says…

Dear Rhonda

If I said to you this industry is full of BS would you agree? (Yes I would Agree and this is BS right here in this line after reading the subject line.)

Well, let me tell you this…

I make commissions every week because I know how to market. (WRONG)

I struggled for months on end. Period…
( O.k, now I believe this line)

But click on the link below and follow the steps in my site and
